Oscar Jackson was born August 26, 1911 in a farm house in Clay County, near Vermillion, South Dakota to parents, John and Lovisa Jackson. He died September 18, 2013 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 102 years, and 23 days. Oscar attended Prairie Center Elementary School. Following school, he worked on the family farm with his parents. On December 24, 1936 he married Adele Hansen at the Roseni Parsonage, Beresford, SD. Oscar then moved one mile north and Adele moved one mile south to their new home where they lived for 52 years and raised their family. Raising crops and livestock were the primary farming activities. Oscar was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church with involvement in Sunday School and Mission Society. He had a heart for missions and was involved in the Sioux City, IA Gospel Mission. Following retirement from farming, he worked part time as a painter, appliance repairman and hospital/nursing home maintenance. After moving to Alcester, he and Adele became members of the United Church of Christ. They enjoyed retirement years in their new home in town where he continued to care for the land; planting trees and growing roses so he could give Adele a rose every day as was his tradition. He and Adele would always be ready to break out the coffee and cookies and of course Mexican dominoes to any who stopped by. Oscar's greatest sadness was the disappearance of Pam. But his greatest joy came from his personal relationship with Christ, his love for Adele, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Oscar is survived by sons Daryl (Lillian) Jackson, New Philadelphia, OH and Jerry (Sue) Jackson, Waconia, MN, daughter Kay (Dexter) Brock, Sioux Falls, SD, seven grandchildren, Cheryl ( Patrick) Snyder, Dover, OH, Suzanne (Dan) Kaiser, Trieste, Italy, Michelle (Steve) McQueen, New Philadelphia, OH, Krista (Jason) McKee, Sunbury, OH, Sharon Jackson, Charlotte, NC, Greg (Sarah) Jackson, Minneapolis, MN, and Rebecca (Aaron) Schmidt, Duluth, MN; 12 great grandchildren, Bree and Connor Jackson, Taylor and Lauren Schmidt, Sabrina, Sarah and Claire Kaiser, Kolin and Colton McKee, Tyler and Emilie McQueen, and Carol Ann Snyder.
