Orville "Gus" Jenter was born August 25, 1921 northwest of Centerville, SD to parents William and Lillian (Austin) Jenter. He died September 6, 2012 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 91 years. Gus attended District 55 rural school, Centerville High School and graduated from Augustana College in 1943. While at Augustana, Gus was active in football and track and was later inducted in to their Athletic Hall of Fame. He served in the Naval Reserve during World War II and attended officers training at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. He married Esther Nelson on May 25, 1943 in Sioux City. After his discharge in 1945, Gus began farming and feeding livestock in the Centerville area. He retired from farming in 1986 and began working in Facility Management for USD, retiring in 2005 so he could take care of his wife Esther. She passed away in December of 2005 and Gus continued to live in Centerville until the current time. Gus was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. He was a Fellow at Augustana College. He served on the Federal Land Bank board for 12 years, F.H.A. board for 3 years, was a Turner County Commissioner for 24 years and also served on the Livestock Feeders Board. Gus enjoyed attending football games at Augustana and USD, being with his family and friends, and spending time at the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Esther, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include his son William Jenter of Centerville; two daughters, Julie Williamson of Sioux Falls and Judy Hansen of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, September 11, 2012 at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, with burial at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be from 6PM to 8PM at Scandia Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7PM.
