Oliver C. Hustrulid was born March 15, 1923 in rural Beresford, SD to parents Bert and Ruth (Albin) Hustrulid. He died January 27, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 12 days. Oliver attended Gothland Country School. He joined the United States Army and served 2 years, 2 months and 22 days. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and began working with Bert Hustrulid and Sons Construction. Oliver married Bonnie Christopherson on April 3, 1947 in Vermillion, SD. The couple lived in Beresford until 1971 when they moved to Englewood, Colorado where he continued in the construction business. Oliver retired in 1984 and continued to work in construction part time. In 2000 the couple moved back to Beresford. The couple has resided at the Bethesda Nursing Home for the last year. Oliver was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks, Eagles, Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Oliver is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie, of Beresford; four children: Judy Jensen and husband Terry of Beresford, Duane Hustrulid and wife Joanie of Hermosa, SD, Karen Boden and husband Ray of Beresford and Peggy Robinette and husband Mike of Westcliffe, CO; 11 grandchildren: Nathan Jensen, Becky (Jason) Pauly, Candace Jensen, Nicole (David) Stakebake, Christopher Hustrulid, Christina (Randy) Quartier, Kim Boden, Larry (Jill) Boden, Andrew (Ann) Boden, Paul (Becki) Robinette and Melissa Robinette; 18 great grandchildren; brother Palmer (Marilynn) Hustrulid; two sisters: Elaine Hedeen and Phyllis Lundberg; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Daivd, 4 brothers, Vernon, Wayne, Roger, and Lee, and sister Helen Funeral services will be held 2PM Wednesday, January 31 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford with burial at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home and resuming at 6PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
