Olaf C. Akland, 95, of Beresford died December 13, 2006 in a Sioux Falls hospital. His memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Burial will be at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ. Olaf C. Akland was born March 27, 1911 near Menno, SD to Tobias and Cora Marie (Larson) Akland. He died December 13, 2006 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 95 years, eight months and 16 days. Olaf was raised on the family farm near Menno and graduated from Augustana Academy before graduating from South Dakota State College with his degree in teaching. He taught and farmed for a few years. He married Geloris Johnson. Olaf worked for State Farm Insurance Company for 40 years in Vermillion, SD. They retired and moved to Sun City, AZ. Following Geloris death, Olaf married Valborg C. Strom. He moved to Beresford in 2003 after Valborgs death. One of Olafs interests was the Lutheran Medical Missions. Survivors include two brothers, Leonard (Agnes) Akland of St. Peter, MN and Selmer (Eleanor) Akland of Beresford; and one sister, Violet Irene (Jerry) Karlstad of Sacramento, CA. Preceding him in death were his parents; wives; three sisters, Thorborg Marie Jacobson, Gladys Judith Akland and Thelma Christine Eidsness; and three brothers, Melvin Gilbert Akland, Stanley Lawrence Akland and Christian Wilfred Akland.
