Norman Henry Hartman was born December 6, 1925 in Plymouth County, IA to parents Harry and Anna (Beckman) Hartman. He died February 7, 2013 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 87 years. Norman attended school in Iowa through the 8th grade. He married Margaret Hitzmann in 1949. The couple farmed in the Chatsworth, IA area. They later moved to Alcester where Norman continued to farm until his retirement in 1988. They built a house and moved into town in 1996. Norman was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, puzzles, listening to polka music, and eating lutefisk on his shared birthday with Tim Winquist. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin and Edward, sister Lillian Hall, brothers in law Charles, Art, Francis, Melvin, and Daryl and sister in law Shirley Hartman. Survivors include his wife Margaret of Alcester; two daughters, Carolyn Bowers and husband Will of Brandon and Mary Sigman and husband Steve of Alcester; 5 grandchildren, Brant Bowers, Neil (Chaley) Bowers, Stacy (Hans) Pitsch, Amber (Justin) Meyer and Nathan Sigman; 6 great grandchildren, Dominic, Veronica, Braidan, Ashlynn, Hanna and Easton; 5 sisters, Fern Peterson, Florence Green and Esther (Bob) Berg all of Alcester, Shirley McVay and Mary Jean Rogness both of Beresford and sister in law Darlene Hartman of Alcester; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Nathanael Lutheran Church, Alcester, with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alcester. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 6PM to 7:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.
