Obituary

Norma Joy (Reiners) Friedrichs was born on February 20, 1944 in Viborg, SD to Otto and Frances Reiners.  They lived on a farm near Centerville, SD and she joined three brothers, Robert, Eugene, and James, later she was blessed with a sister, Sharon.  Norma lived her younger years on the farm and went to country school and later when they moved to town, she attended Centerville Public School where she graduated in 1962.  Norma attended the University of South Dakota for a year and then went to Rapid City, SD where she attended the National College of Business where she graduated in 1967.

She moved to Mitchell, Sd and lived for several years while working as a switchboard operator.  Norma became a mother and had a daughter, Tamay Marie. Being a mother was one of her greatest joys. She married Wayne Friedrichs in 1973 and moved to Paramount, CA where she became a full-time mother and stayed at home to raise Tamay. In 1980, after getting a divorce, she returned to the community she loved and grew up in, Centerville, SD, to be near her family.  Norma spent the remaining years of her life in Centerville.

Norma has three grandchildren, Estacia Lynn (Beeler) Nankivel of Beresford, SD, Shane Bryant Crelly of Minneapolis, MN and Chase Ryan Crelly of West Columbia, SC; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter Vaughn Nankivel, Maliyah JaLynn Nankivel, Kaydence Joy Crelly and Harper Ann Crelly.  She was very proud to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. Norma loved attending all of the sporting events and school events of her grandchildren.  She loved to go to the Centerville High School games. Norma also enjoyed the USD Coyotes, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, Christian and Country Music.  She loved spending time with her family and she always knew and remembered everyone on their birthdays.  Her favorite holiday was Christmas.

She was strong in her faith; Norma was a member of the United Church of Christ (Federated) in Centerville, SD.  She was baptized in 1951 and confirmed in her church in 1960.

Norma was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2018.  She was given 6 months to live twice and out lived both of those.  She was a fighter.  Norma passed peacefully on July 12th at Ava's House after prayer with the Chaplin and as "Amazing Grace" was being sung to her.  As true to her life she lived with faith and God brought her home. Her family was very blessed to share her life with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert and James; a niece, Leanne; two great- nephews, Travis and James; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Tamay and her husband, Brian Crelly;  grandchildren, Estacia, Shane, Chase and wife Rachel Crelly; four great- grandchildren Hunter, Maliyah, Kaydence and Harper; brother, Eugene Reiners and his wife, Carolyn; sister, Sharon and her husband, Jim Smidt; sister-in-law, Joyce Reiners; many nieces, nephews, and four aunts.  Her time with us is now over, but we will always be thankful for the love, support, and joy she brought to our lives. Norma will now walk with God forever.

A service of remembrance will be 2:00PM Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Riverview Cemetery, Centerville, SD.
