With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Nora Yvonne Barnes Ludwig, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Nora passed away peacefully on Saturday March 1, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by her family and friends. Nora was born on September 6, 1951, in Kingsport Tennessee and raised by her parents, Betty Alice & Kenneth Arlyn Barnes. Nora was the oldest of her nine siblings: Don, David, Steve, Desiree, Kenny, Doyle, Serena, Neal, & Nina. Nora lived a life full of warmth, love, & dedication to her family.
Nora married Dennis Ludwig and raised four children. Throughout her life, Nora was a pillar of strength & kindness, always putting the needs of others before her own. She had an unwavering love for her family & friends and her home was always a place of comfort and joy to many. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Nora was a beacon of love & wisdom, teaching life lessons and creating unforgettable memories with those who surrounded her.
Nora's compassionate spirit extended beyond her family. She touched many lives through her work as a nurse. Nora was always striving to make the world around her a better place. Her gentle nature, contagious giggle, and thoughtful advice will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nora is survived by her four children: Renee (Brette) Smith of Tonopah, Arizona; Shayne (Kim) Ludwig of Burbank, SD; Mischa Ludwig of Sioux Falls, SD; and Alisia Ludwig Hawkins of Beresford, SD. Nora was a very proud grandmother to Kahea (Gregg) Wallis, Kylie Smith and Corey Smith, Cody (Cassie) Braun, Riley (Cass) Braun, Addison (Riley) Johnson, Shandie (Christian) Ludwig, Aaron Ludwig, Mitchel Brown, Layne Brown, Kaedyn Brown, Javon Hawkins and HuxLee Ludwig Hawkins. Nora also had four great-grandchildren: Khia Sparks, Karsen Wallis, Kennedy Wallis, and Knox Braun, who brought her endless joy. Nora's memory will live on in the hearts of her family.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, David & Doyle. Nora will continue her journey with her two beloved dogs, Bo and Rex.
Nora's love and light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she left behind, including the many bonus children & grandchildren. May she rest in peace, forever surrounded by the love she so generously gave. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love.
A celebration of Nora's life will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025, at two o'clock in the afternoon at the Burbank School House in Burbank SD.
