Nane A. Thomson was born May 5, 1927 in St. Paul, MN to parents Edwin and Mattie (Rathbun) McConnell. She died December 8, 2015 In Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 88.
Nane graduated from high school in Sioux City, IA and attended and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Dakota. She married John Thomson in September of 1950. The couple resided in Centerville, SD until 1996 when they moved to Sioux Falls. Nane was a past member of the United Church of Christ in Centerville and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved art, collecting and painting. Nane took several art classes including some in Rockport, MA, Colorado and Mexico. She became an accomplished artist herself and had her work displayed in Washington, DC as well as Scotland and many other cities in the United States. She also enjoyed traveling with John.
She is survived by her husband John, Sioux Falls; two sons, John Thomson, New York and James (Kathy) Thomson, Sioux Falls; a daughter Ann (Charlie) Cole, Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren, Sarah (Marc) Marshall, John Thomson, Maddie Thomson, Dr. Christopher Thomson, Joseph Thomson, Alex Cole and Erin Cole; a great granddaughter Lucy Marshall; a sister-in-law Martha (Chuck) Soter, Tuscon, AZ; a nephew Fred (Amy) Christenson, Fairfield, CT and a niece Molly (Eric) Herschede, Phoenix, AZ. Preceding her death were her parents.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 PM, Thursday, December 10 at Dow Rummel Village Chapel in Sioux Falls and at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 11 at the Centerville United Church of Christ.
