Funeral services for Myrtle Thormodsgaard will be 2PM Saturday, Feb. 6th at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be Friday from 3-7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 5-7PM.
Myrtle Ihlene Peterson was born August 21, 1917 in Clay County, near Centerville, to Amund and Ida (Mellem) Peterson and entered into death on February 2, 2010 at Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota at the age of 92 years, five months and 11 days.
Myrtle attended Ash Creek rural school and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Scandia Lutheran Church. She worked at Norway Center Store, where she met her future husband, Albert Thormodsgaard. They were united in marriage on August 22, 1941 in Canton, SD. Myrtle was a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church and enjoyed her circle and sewing quilt tops with the other quilters.
The couple farmed south of Alcester until 1977 when they moved into an apartment in Alcester. Albert died on October 14, 1994 in Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. In March of 2001, Myrtle moved to Sunrise Apartments in Yankton to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. On July 18, 2009 she fell in her apartment and has resided in the nursing home until her death.
Her parents, three brothers, five sisters, her husband and a daughter preceded her in death.
Those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her daughter, Janet Neibergall (Bob) of Yankton; son-in-law, David Braastad (Ann) of Westhampton, MA; six grandchildren, Lisa Swartz of Pierre, SD, Dr. Corey Braastad of Southampton, MA, Jared Belkey of Houlton, WI, Ryan, Dane and Andrew Braastad of MA; five great-grandchildren, Logan and Easton Swartz of Pierre and Lauren, Aiden and Ethen Braastad of Southampton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
