Myrna Kay Van Dyk was born January 20, 1942 in Sibley, IA to parents Cornelius and Gertrude (Vos) Van Dyk and entered into death on January 4, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 16 days.

Myrna was a member of the Lake Wilson MN High School graduation class of 1960. After high school, she moved to St. Paul and worked as a key punch operator at St. Paul Fire and Marine Ins. Co. and later for the Great Northern Railroad.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Van Ede in 1964 at St. Marks Catholic Church in St. Paul after his return from the Navy.

As their family grew, they worked and lived in various places throughout Minnesota, including Redwood Falls, Litchfield, Glencoe and Luverne, before settling down in Centerville, SD in 1973.

While living in Centerville, Myrna worked part time at the Leader Clothing Store, the Good Samaritan Center and the Centerville School District for many years serving lunch to senior citizens and school children. She also supported Bob's specialty advertising business Van's Distributing after he fell ill in 1994.

She converted to Catholicism and was an active member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar Society and served her world-famous secret- recipe, two-milk-glass chocolate brownies.

She was a strong believer in the Centerville community, participating in the Band Parents and Garden Club, serving Meals-On-Wheels and as an active member of the local Red-Hat-Ladies Chapter.

From her first year in Centerville, she could not resist rescuing and providing a loving home to numerous stray cats who gave her unconditional love in return. She loved to travel, enjoyed attending book club, playing Whist and laughing and discussing world issues with her very close coffee friends.

Among those who survive and who gratefully shared her life are her brother Walter (Valerie) Van Dyk of Lake Wilson MN, her son Douglas (Lori) of Brandon, SD; her son Michael (Celia) of Wheeling, IL, her daughter Marci Petersen (Loren) of Minneota, MN along with grandchildren Travis and Zachary Van Ede, Jason Johnson, Tom, Noel and Jasmine Peterson and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, in-laws John and Mildred and her parents.

Myrna's family would like to express their deep gratitude to her good friends, The Good Shepherd Congregation, the Centerville Care Center, the Centerville Community and especially her Center St Neighbors who were always there for her. Your love and support of our Mom over the years exemplifies the blessing that is small town life.
