Mildred E. Wevik was born September 25, 1912 in Lincoln County, SD to parents August and Martha (Engle) Rasmussen. She was raised by Earl and Ida Dann. She died February 21, 2012 at Bethesda Nursing Home at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 26 days. Mildred attended Mt. Hope School, Pioneer High School for two years and then graduated from Beresford High School in 1931. She was a clerk at Bruehler & Bruehler Drug Store in Beresford. Mildred married Elmer Wevik on June 15, 1938 at the Earl Dann farm in rural Lincoln County, SD. She was a member of Roseni Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the JUG (Just Us Girls), Opti-Mrs. Extension Club, Pioneer Ladies Aid and the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Clarence (Cy) Smolik, brothers Merle, Arley, Wayne, William, Donald and Odeen, and her sisters Marie and Helen Rasmussen and Delona Johnson. Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her twin daughters, Jeanette Smolik of Beresford and Janice (Roger) Smith of Marshalltown, IA; son Merle Wevik (Margaret Ticktin) of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren Saretta (Alejandro) Cavazos, San Antonio, TX, Matthew (Amy) Smolik, Tea, SD, Michelle O'Connor, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Timothy O'Connor, Ames, IA; great-grandchildren Chelsea and Tyler O'Connor, Marshalltown, IA, Cyanna and Cameryn Cavazos, San Antonio, TX, and Brandt and Emerson Smolik, Tea, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4PM to 7PM with family present from 5PM to 7PM and a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
