Obituary

Mildred Elaine was born Dec. 10, 1926 on the shores of Lake Andes near Ravinia, SD to parents Virgil and Hulda (Carlson) Millage. She was the youngest of seven children.

Millie attended school through 6th grade at Lake Andes, then with her mother moved to Sioux City, IA where she attended 7th grade. Hulda married Henry Otten the summer before Millie started 8th grade. The two of them moved to Henry's farm in Alcester, SD and Millie attended Cole School. She graduated from Alcester High School in 1944. She attended NBT Business School in Sioux City, then worked as a secretary for an electric company. She attended General Beadle Teachers College, received a teacher's certificate and taught country school at Huggins, Ludwig and a school in Lincoln County.

On Nov. 19, 1949 Millie married Fay Hendricks, the man she would love and share the next 73 1/2 years with. To this union six children were born. Right after their marriage they started farming. In 1952 they bought a farm northwest of Alcester where they raised their family. In 1975 they built a new home on Millies family farm where she lived until May, 2024. Millie worked at Great Plains Lumber Yard in Alcester, babysat, worked at USD, UCC and Alcester Insurance. She was always happy to babysit her grand and great-grandkids whom she dearly loved.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband Fay in May of 2023, son Steve, great-granddaughter Olivia Limoges, her parents, brothers Lawrence Millage, Wilfred Millage, sisters Hazel Colberg, Wilma Hampton, Beulah Hodkinson and Viola Johanneson. She is survived by her five children Nancy (DeLane) Fickbohm, Mary (Michael) Limoges of Alcester, daughter-in-law Lisa Hendricks of Lincoln, NE, Joe (Diane) of Sturgis, Kay (Tim) Winquist of Alcester, Laura (Greg) Alder of Lake Isabella, CA, 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren with another on the way.

Millie had a competitive spirit, for years she belonged to the golf league, bowling league, a canasta club, 4-H leader, BCNU club, Sr. Citizens, Catholic Daughters of America, VFW Auxiliary, and held offices in many of these clubs. She loved to play cards, board games and was an avid reader. Fay and Millie loved to dance; the pair made quite an impression on anyone that was fortunate enough to witness their dancing talent.
