Obituary

Merlyn Brosz passed away on Sunday, January 23 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls after a short battle with cancer.

He was born, to use his words, the 4th month, 30th day of 1929 to Oscar and Ruth Brosz. After graduating from high school in Tripp, SD he attended Yankton College, served in the military and taught school at various places. He married Connie Balfany on May 29, 1958. They lived in Scotland, SD for 12 years where he was high school principal, Sunday school teacher and basketball referee. They then moved to Beresford, SD where they would reside for 41 years. During that time he was high school principal, member of the Lions Club and American Legion, and spent many years serving on the Beresford City Council.

He is survived by his wife Connie Brosz of Sioux Falls; daughter Lori Brosz of Sioux Falls; son Jeff Brosz and Roxy and Stefanie Johnson of Beresford; sister Peg Jackson of Fort Dodge, IA; sister-in-law Carole Brosz of Minneapolis, MN; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother H.O. Brosz, brothers-in-law John Jackson and Jack Balfany, and nephew Brian Balfany.

Merlyn enjoyed telling stories of school memories with his former teacher friends at the Friday morning ROMEO club meetings. It goes without saying that many people shared an across the desk experience with Mr. Brosz. It would be appreciated if you would share your story by mailing it to Connie Brosz, 4902 S. Oxbow #210, Sioux Falls, SD 57106 or emailing it to lebr@sio.midco.net.

A memorial service will be held 2:00PM, Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the United Church of Christ in Beresford, SD. To commemorate his years served in the Beresford School system, please feel free to wear Beresford Watchdog attire.
