Merle Eugene Lundberg was born August 23, 1948 in Akron, Iowa to Benjamin and Mary Alma (Gibson) Lundberg. He died August 26, 2018 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 70 years and three days.
He was raised on the family farm with his six siblings. Merle attended country school and graduated from Alcester High School in 1966. He worked for Scroggs Fertilizer and Grain in Hawarden, IA and was a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard. Merle married Judy Hansen on December 4, 1976.
He worked full time for many years at the Alcester Feed & Grain in Alcester, SD but made time to do what he really loved to do, which was farming. Merle liked golf; he liked to play in tournaments and watch on television. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races on TV.
Merle is survived by his wife, Judy; two daughters, Wendy (Greg) Pigman of Beresford and Christa Lee of Lester, Iowa; three grandsons, Chad League, Brandon (Brittaney) League and Cody Lee; seven great-grandchildren, Trinity, Colton, Cheyenne, Lexus, Mercedes, Autry and Iris; four sisters, Carol (Robert) Nelson of Beresford, Mildred (Roger) Oines of Sioux Falls, Evelyn (Vern) Cunningham of Battleground, WA and LaVonne (Gene) Linnelle of Minneapolis, MN and two brothers, Lloyd (Constance) Lundberg of Alcester, SD and Lawrence (LaDonna) Lundberg of Crofton, NE. His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation with the family present will be 6-8PM Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, SD. Memorial services will be held at 2PM Wednesday, Aug. 29th at Big Springs Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
