Obituary

Funeral services for Merle Anderberg will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester, SD. Burial with military honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester, SD. Merle George 'Tap' Anderberg was born August 19, 1930 in Hudson, South Dakota to parents George and Rena (Rice) Anderberg. He died February 22, 2007 in Beresford, SD at the age of 76 years, six months and three days. Tap grew up in the Alcester, Hudson and Hawarden areas. He graduated from Alcester High School in 1948. Tap served in the US Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in the Philippines. He volunteered in the American Peace Corps in 1966. He worked in India with farmers breeding and improving swine, feeding practices and caring for the sow and the litter. Much work was done on providing housing and equipment for swine. A cooperative hog unit was designed and built under the supervision of Tap. In 1969 he returned to Alcester where he and his father were carpenters. Tap worked in the Alcester area as a carpenter until he retired due to health. He is a past member of the VFW, Odd Fellows and the Rifle Association in Alcester. One brother, Wayne Anderberg of Yankton, SD; one sister, Zora Oaks of Custer, SD; and many nieces and nephews survive him. His parents; infant son, Merle George Anderberg, Jr.; two sisters, Audrey Anderberg and Marilyn Anderson and three brothers, Leroy Anderberg, Curtis Anderberg and Keith Anderberg preceded him in death.
