Mayme Kratochvil, 90, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Morningside Manor in Alcester. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester. Visitation will be Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester. Mayme Brewer was born in Elk Point, SD on May 31, 1915 to parents John J. and Lillian (Lane) Brewer. She died Saturday, May 20, 2006 in Alcester, SD at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 19 days. May was raised and educated in Elk Point where she graduated from high school in 1933. She married Leslie F. Kratochvil on December 22, 1934 in Elk Point. Together they farmed three miles west of Hawarden, Iowa in Union County. May was very active in 4H and was a leader for 60 years. She was a member of the Social Circle Extension Club in Alcester for 55 years and volunteered calling Bingo at Morningside Manor for over 35 years. After Leslies death in December 1998, May moved into Alcester. She liked reading, doing crafts, traveling and collecting recipes and cookbooks. May is survived by her three brothers, Lawrence (Opal) Brewer and Eugene Brewer all of Elk Point and Harold (Beverly) Brewer of Glendale, AZ; three sisters, Hazel Kneebone of Wagner, Helen Orestad of Powderville, MT and Jane Crumb of Los Angeles, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers, Lyle and Charles and one infant brother, George.
