Obituary

Mavis Theodora Brose was born September 10, 1923 to parents Arthur F Brose and Alma Weiss Brose . She was born and grew up on a farm near the Four Corners in Kingsbury County. She was the oldest of six children; Irene, Leona, Dorothee, Vernon, and Harold. Mavis graduated from Arlington High School in 1941. She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD, and worked for Coca Cola and also as a secretary and bookkeeper for Associated Motor Carriers Trucking Industry of SD for many years. Mavis died March 30, 2017 at the Centerville Care and Rehab Center, Centerville, SD.

Mavis married Lloyd Nelson Overgaard on June 26, 1949. They were married at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, and moved to Pleasant Hill Farm, the Overgaard farm north of Centerville. Over the years in Centerville, Mavis served as an officer of Turner County Extension Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church, a past church officer, and Sunday School teacher for 25 years. She also was member of VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Modern Homemakers Extension Club, and received the Emerald Clover Award for 25 years as a 4-H Club leader volunteer. Together, Lloyd and Mavis raised three children: Larry Nelson and twins Diane Raye, and Dawn Kaye. Lloyd passed away March 21, 1995. Mavis continued to live at their home until early February of 2017. Mavis enjoyed community events and attended regularly, until her balance began to waiver and health to fail. She loved the Centerville High School basketball games and school programs, serving lunch after the Homecoming parade, Arts Council Productions, and a good visit with anyone who had the time to talk. She had a very giving spirit and enjoyed volunteering, giving rides to friends, and helping others.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Susan) Overgaard, Diane (Gregory) Marshall, and Dawn (Stanley) Schaal; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Michael) McGreevy, Emily (Derrick) Robinson, Michael Marshall, Daniel Marshall, Andrea(Jeffrey) Fish, Matthew Schaal, Ashley (Ryan) Schlieman; five great-grandchildren: Ruthie and Graham Robinson, Audrey Fish, and Madilynn and Jack Schlieman; sisters, Irene Lund and Leona Brose Johnson; sister-in-law Marilyn Dahl-Brose; a special friend Myrl Jean Austad; and several nieces and nephews.

Those preceding Mavis in death are her husband Lloyd Nelson Overgaard, parents Arthur and Alma Brose, sister Dorothee Pike, brother Vernon Brose and infant brother Harold: nephew Craig Thompson, and niece Roben Pike.
