Maureen C. Moriarty, 89, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2024 at Legends at Lake Lorraine in Sioux Falls, SD.
Maureen was born July 22nd, 1934 on the family farm in Tabor, SD to Clara (Kronaizl) and Wenceslaus Rokusek. She grew up in Tabor, SD with her brothers and sisters where she attended and graduated from Tabor High School. After graduating high school, she moved to Yankton, SD where she trained and worked as a dental assistant for a local dentist. Then she met her sweetheart. Donald J Moriarty fell in love with Maureen as they worked together at a drug store. They were married in 1955, and in 1956 purchased the Trading Post in Springfield, SD. Don and Maureen raised their five children and successfully operated their business in Springfield for more than 20 years.
In addition to raising her children and helping run the store, Maureen was an avid seamstress, crafter, gardener, Girl Scout Leader, CCD teacher, a member of the Altar Society, and a very active member at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. Don and Maureen were also dedicated volunteers at The House of Mary Shrine near Yankton. They donated funds, along with several other donors, to erect a beautiful sculpture of the Holy Innocents in the memorial garden there.
Maureen is survived by her daughters Colleen (Mike) Monfore of Holland, MI; Erin (Steve) Lange of Sioux City, IA; Denise Moriarty (Jeff Schwebach) of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law Gina Moriarty of Rapid City, SD; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Marge (Jerry) Rombeck and Paulette (Don) Schnabel; sister-in-law Helen Rokusek; brother-in-law Mike (Lorraine) Moriarty; and sister-in-law Geri Moriarty.
Maureen was preceded in death by her loving husband Don, daughter Diane, son Brad, and brother Richard.
Maureen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. She will be remembered for her faith, determination, go-getter personality, as well as her craftiness and ingenuity that lives on in her children and grandchildren.
A special thank you to the staff at Legends at Lake Loraine, Sioux Falls, for the loving care and kindness you showed to Maureen during her time there.
