Rena and Ray Waddell welcomed Mary Rebecca Trudeau (Waddell) into this world on November 28, 1923 in Akron, IA; she enjoyed growing up and spending time with her siblings Hazel and Orville Waddell. Mary and Len Trudeau were united in marriage on December 13, 1941 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Emmett, SD. After spending six weeks together in California Len was called home by his parents to help run the farm with his Dad during World War II; they lived on the family farm for one year before moving to Alcester, SD where Mary resided the rest of her life. In this union they were blessed with 8 children: Renee (Swede) Jurgenson, Linda (Doug) Lund, Cindy (Tom)Tucker, Jeff (Linette) Trudeau, Maria (Paul) Hooyer, Shelle (Troy) Jakobeit, Bill (Gail) Trudeau and Chad (Lisa) Trudeau. She was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Her husband, Len passed away on June 12th, 2000. Mary enjoyed caring for little children in her home and was later employed in the food service industry for 33 years with the Alcester School District. Mary was a devoted member for over 60 years at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, SD . She belonged to Catholic Daughter's where she was nominated as mother of the year; she was involved with the Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, she Volunteered RSVP and was awarded KC mother of the year along with being involved as a senior citizen supporting the Senior Citizen Center. Mary's family was the most important part of her life but having company, playing cards, traveling, entertaining, working crossword puzzles and reading were things that gave her that beautiful smile we all loved. She is preceded in death by her husband Len Trudeau, her grandsons Michael Bovill, Dillon Hooyer and great grandson Cody Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Avera Hospice or the Beresford Catholic Daughters. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00AM, Saturday, July 28 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, with burial to follow at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be at the church Friday from 6PM to 8PM with a wake service at 7PM.
