Mary K. Johnson was born November 17, 1926 in Marcus, IA to parents Elmer and Margaret (Garvin) Hanson. She died May 14, 2007 at her home in rural Beresford, SD. Mary graduated from Beresford High School. She then attended Nursing School in Sioux City, IA. She married John Johnson in November of 1944. The couple lived in the rural Beresford area. John died in October of 1999 and Mary continued to live on the farm until the present time. Mary was a member of Dalesburg Baptist Church. Among her hobbies and interests were embroidery, crocheting, and flowers. She enjoyed playing the piano and was asked to sing at many weddings, funerals and various other events. Mary had many friends and cherished the time she spent with all of them. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Don Olejnicak, two brothers, Don and Bernard and a sister Margaret Ann in infancy. She is survived by her three daughters: Caryll Olejnicak of Owatonna, MN, Cheryll Marsolek and husband Dale of Claremont, MN and Sheila Cole and husband Dan of Minneapolis, MN; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; two brothers: John Robert Hanson and wife Rita of Sioux Falls and Elmer James Hanson of Pendleton, OR; sister Agnes Pat Bisson of Fergus Falls, MN; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Friday, May 18, 2007 at Dalesburg Baptist Church, rural Beresford, SD. Visitation with family present will be Thursday from 5PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
