Mary J. Beeck, 87, died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Morningside Care
Center, Alcester, South Dakota, after a long illness.
Mrs. Beeck was born June 23, 1922 to Robert and Jenny (McDonald) White in
Hawarden, IA. She married David E. Blomberg on November 26, 1943 in Elk
Point, SD. They farmed for a short while on a farm east of Alcester, before
moving to David's family farm in Union County, South Dakota north of Akron,
IA.
She married Gust Beeck on July 30, 1970 in Chatsworth, IA. They farmed east
of Akron, IA, until they retired and moved to their home in Chatsworth; and
then later to Alcester.
She worked at Morningside Manor as a nurses aid and then in the dietary
department. Before her illness, she enjoyed cooking, crafts, her favorite
soap operas, and her doll collection. She took pride in making quilt tops
with embroidered motifs for many of her family members and friends. She was
an active member of Nathaniel Lutheran Church
and the Senior Citizens Center. During the holidays she crocheted many sets
of mittens and stocking hats for the Christmas Tree at the Alcester State
Bank. She took part in and enjoyed the many activities at the Care Center.
Grateful for having shared her life are: Four daughters; Mrs. Donald
(Corrine) Maske, Wanda Vanderham, and Connie Hieb; and Mrs. Ronald (Dora)
Kjose; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Virginia Bishop and Marilyn Simpson; and
many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her; parents, husbands, two son-in-laws, her
step-mother three sisters and three brothers.
Memorial services will be held 2:00PM, Saturday, May 8 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester.
