Martha Irene Warner Geveshausen was born April 9, 1927, at Geddes, SD to Charles Henry Warner and Faye Ola Leach Warner, and entered into God's loving embrace on March 9, 2014, at the age of 86 years and 11 months. She attended schools in the Elk Point, Volin and Alcester areas. Martha married Herman R. Geveshausen of Beresford in Luverne, Minnesota November 6, 1952. To this union three children were born: Connie Rae, Carlene Renae, and Curtis Ray. Herman and Martha farmed and had a dairy operation in the Alcester and Beresford areas until 1978 when they moved to Alcester. She worked as a waitress at Tolly's Cafe in Beresford and Reid's Corner Cafe in Alcester. On April 26, 1980, she started work at Morningside Manor Nursing home in Alcester where she was a cook until May 1984, when she became Dietary Manager. Martha hung up her apron at Morningside Manor in early 2002. Martha was well known for her wonderful fried chicken, and she enjoyed spending countless hours in the kitchen, always making sure everyone was well fed. There was always a pot of coffee on in Martha's kitchen! After her husband, Herman, entered the nursing home in Alcester she got a Boston terrier, Buttons, who became a beloved and constant companion. Herman passed away on February 7, 1999. In 2002, she sold her house and moved to an apartment in Alcester. After falling in October 2004, she entered Bethesda of Beresford where she resided until her passing. One of her greatest enjoyments in life was spending time with her family and friends. She delighted in being "GG" to her great grandchildren. Those grateful for sharing her life are her children Connie Rae (Steve) Cain of Beresford, Carlene Renae (John) Burke of Spearfish, and Curtis Ray (Maureen) Geveshausen of Kimball; five grandchildren, Jennifer Rebecca (J.J.) Antonson of Beresford, Sara Marie Cain of Beresford, Jonathon Steven (Micah Hansen) Cain of Tea, Christopher Daniel Schlup of Spearfish, Katie Linn (Jared) Farley of Sartel, MN; her step-grandchildren Greg Allen (Kristin) Richey of Kearney, Nebraska, Michael Charles Richey of Kimball; six great-grandchildren, Cain Arthur Antonson, Kaiya Irene Antonson, Mason Christopher Schlup, Madelynn Rebecca Schlup, Mckenna Ann Schlup, Zakaryah Daniel Farley, Zaiden Dean Farley, Zandria Linn Farley; one step great-grandson Luke William Richey; sisters-in-law Phyliss Stephenson, Deanna Warner, Shirley Schnose, Dixie Warner, and Violet Geveshausen; many nieces and nephews; special friend Linda Johnson, and many special Bethesda caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Robert Charles and Wayne Warren, and infant brother, Thomas John. Funeral services for Martha will be 2PM Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD. Visitation will be 4-8PM Tuesday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6-8PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
