Marlys Diane Powell, 78, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2023, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD following a short courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Marlys was born on June 17, 1944, to Myron and Mildred (Blomberg) Shuck in Akron, IA. She helped on the family farm as a child and attended school in Alcester, SD. In 1960 she married Gerald Powell and from that union they were blessed with four children. Over the years, Marlys raised her family in Hawarden, IA, Sioux Falls, SD, and in 1991 finally making her home in Beresford. She worked as a CNA at Bethesda Nursing Home until 2002. She was then employed at Custom Coils in Alcester, SD until her retirement in November 2020.

Marlys enjoyed shopping trips and lunch with friends, she also looked forward to the annual trip to Grand Falls Casino with her good friend Deb, to celebrate their June birthdays.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Michael (Shelly) Powell, Machelle (Rob) Crawford, Melissa (Jarrod) Peterson; brother: Neil (Nancy) Shuck; grandchildren: Matthew (Sara) Powell, Justin Powell, Sarah (Dustin) Medenwald, Kyle (Kelsey) Crawford, Megan (Cory) Crawford and Kason Peterson; great-grandchildren: Braden, Brynn, Brooklyn, Alexis, Dylan, Levi, Kaden, Nolan, Everly, Kayne and Kynzie; great-great grandson: Ryker; including many loved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family as well as a few special friends she loved dearly.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; infant son: Gerald Jr; sisters: Carol Jean, Elizabeth; grandson: Daniel; great-grandson: Dirksten.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Wass Funeral Home, Beresford, SD on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Family will be present one hour prior for a time of visitation.
