Marlyn Edman, 92, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Edgewood Assisted Living, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be 5-7PM Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, SD with a prayer service at 7PM. The funeral will be 10:30AM Thursday at Scandia Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Marlyn Doyle Edman was born October 3, 1925 at Centerville, SD to Albert and Leone [Best] Edman. He attended elementary school in rural Centerville. His family moved to Oregon during his junior year of high school, but he returned to complete his senior year and graduated from Centerville High School in 1943. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1943. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Marie Peterson, on September 14, 1946, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Centerville. They just celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
They lived in Humboldt, SD for a short time before moving back to Centerville where he worked at Wilson's Market. The love of farming was strong, and they moved to Harrisburg, SD in order to start farming. In 1959 they returned to Centerville to live on the farm Dorothy grew up on and remained there actively farming for 56 years. In addition, he operated a milk truck business for seven years and was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Company. His son, Gary joined him in the farming and Pioneer Seed business. Marlyn was active in the Centerville America Legion and served in many offices throughout the years. He was also a member of Scandia Lutheran Church, Masons, El Riad Shrine, and SD Livestock Feeders Association. They enjoyed spending winters in Texas with many friends. In November, 2016 they moved to Edgewood Assisted Living, Sioux Falls, SD.
Marlyn is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two children, Gloria (Terry) Dohman, Gary (Sandy) Edman; four grandchildren, Tara (Edman) Cole, Robb (Elizabeth) Dohman, Timothy Edman, and Kristin (Dixon) Kuglin; eight great-grandchildren, Aidan Cole, Haleigh Edman, Jacob Cole, Khloe Edman, Julia Dohman, Emerson Kuglin, Addison Kuglin, and Liam Dohman; his sister, Arlys (Dave) Olson and niece, Susan Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gordon Edman.
