He was born June 7, 1928 north of Beresford to Christ and Marie (Ebsen) Klostergaard. Corky attended North Star school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1946. After graduation he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea from 1946-1948. After his discharge Corky returned home and attended the University of South Dakota and Morningside College where he studied Livestock Marketing and was enrolled in their first livestock evaluation course. He began his career in the livestock business working for Armor Packaging Co., buying cattle for the Sioux City market. In 1952 he moved to the family home north of Beresford and began farming. Corky married Roberta Peterson on August 23, 1958. They raised their three children on the family farm. With the love of buying cattle, in 1970 he purchased a commission firm in Sioux Falls known as Savage and Klostergaard. For the next 30 years, his life revolved around the cattle industry. He enjoyed traveling to Idaho and Montana visiting ranchers and purchasing cattle for local feeders.
After he retired Corky and Roberta moved into town and their son Brad took over the home place. They wintered in Edinberg, Texas, where he spent much of his time on the golf course or at the local sales barn. Corky had many interested; he loved to read, enjoyed sports and socializing with his friends. He never met a stranger. He was active in his local Golf Club, Lions Club, American Legion and VFW. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; son, Brad (Linda) Klostergaard of Beresford; daughters, Marla (Steve) Meyer of Pensacola, FL and Ann (Roger) Filips of Hardington, NE; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leland (Marge) Klostergaard of Sioux Falls and Calvin (Lila) Milliken of Irmo, SC.
