Marlin W. Jurgensen passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at Alcester Care & Rehab at the age of 87 years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, August 6 at the church.
Marlin Wayne Jurgensen was born March 14, 1934 on a farm in Union County to Edna (Osterthun) and Arval Jurgensen. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, IA. In the "good old days" he rode his pony to school. He graduated from Akron High School in 1952. He married the love of his life, Donna Olsen, on February 12, 1954 and they were blessed with 3 children, Ramona, James and Rhonda and 67 ½ years of marriage.
Marlin's faith, family and friends were important to him. He enjoyed working. He drove a stock and grain truck, worked at the VFW for 2 ½ years, worked for the city tending bar for 16 ½ years and the Alcester bowling alley. At age 50, he began working for Union County and worked there until he retired at the age of 73. He also drove maintainer for Big Springs Township.
Marlin's utopia was the Black Hills and he loved vacationing there over the years with his family. Later, he and Donna enjoyed 13 years' worth of trips to Arizona. They enjoyed attending their grandkids sporting events and music performances. He also liked to win at pinochle and watch the Minnesota Twins. He generously donated blood many times. He had a huge love/rapport with animals and passed that love on to his kids and grandkids. He had a very tender heart and his laugh was undeniably infectious you could often hear him humming, and he will be remembered as a great story teller.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Donna; his kids, Ramona (Gary) Kruse, James (Rhonda) Jurgensen and Rhonda (Brad) Taylor; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Mork, Jessica (Aric) Snyders, Brad Jurgensen, Jake (Jacki) Kruse, Aaron (Kris) Jurgensen, Jeremy (Brooke) Kruse, Whitney (Dan) Kahne, Hailey Waechter and Brett Waechter; great-grandchildren, Kaden, McKenna, Elliot, Reece, Dylan, Tanner, Connor, Maxwell, Lily, Rose and Theodor; his sister, Joyce Witt; nephews, Bryan and Brad; and his beloved cat, Kitty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Arval; and his brother-in-law, Robert Witt.
Blessed be his memory
