Obituary

Mark T. Kappenman was born August 17, 1941 in Centerville, SD to parents Sal and Edna (Hook) Kappenman. He died November 23, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 6 days.

Mark grew up in Centerville and graduated from high school in 1959. He married Perry Schriever on February 2, 1963 in Centerville. They made their home in Dakota City, NE where Mark was employed by Iowa Beef Processors. He was transferred to the Council Bluffs, IA plant where he worked until his retirement in 2000. He then moved back to Sioux Falls and has resided there until his death.

He was an avid skier and made many trips to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, often accompanied by family and friends. Mark liked to bowl and shared his love of the game with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed calligraphy and devoted many hours to creating inspirational sayings for those close to him. He was a member of the Center For Active Generations where he volunteered calling BINGO. Family was very important to Mark. Of special significance were family reunions which he enjoyed immensely.

Grateful for having shared his life are: Perry Kellen, Alton, IA; daughter Cynthia London, granddaughter Claire and grandson Jared all of Papillion, NE; son Jeffrey Kappenman of Sioux Falls, grandson Chaz of Coralville, IA, granddaughter Hanna and grandson Nicholas of Brandon, SD; brother Lawrence and wife Mary of Los Gatos, CA, sister Joan Horstman of Sioux Falls, brother Jerry Kappenman and wife Eileen of Selah, WA, brother Pat and wife Carole of Mitchell, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Also special to Mark are his many friends of Bill W and his white Westi, Mikie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sally Bertelsen.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Good shepherd Catholic Church, Centerville. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville.
