Our hearts are broken as we share that Mark Fickbohm, 62, of Alcester, SD passed away on November 3, 2025 at his home.
Mark was born on September 13, 1963 to Edward and Ida (Ludwig) Fickbohm. He grew up in Alcester and graduated from Alcester High School in 1981. Through high school and beyond he worked on the farm of Verlyn Lapour and became a close friend of the family. He went on to attend a diesel mechanics program in Springfield, SD. Though life led him down a different career path, for over 40 years, Mark worked at Alkota Cleaning Systems building all-electric pressure washers. We estimate in that time he would have built over 8,000 machines! While there, his hard work, loyalty, and humor made him not just a good co-worker, but a friend to so many. He also loved helping local farmers during harvest season, always willing to lend a hand when someone needed it.
Mark was very active in the community. He ran the chain at the high school football games for years. He was involved in the township and ran the road grader, keeping the roads maintained through all of the seasons.
If you knew Mark, you knew that he was a true Jackrabbit fan through and through. He loved attending SDSU games and tailgating with his crew in Brookings-those weekends were some of his favorites. He also loved cheering on local teams and supporting his community any way he could.
Above all, his family was everything. He loved his wife, Julie (Sorlie) and they would have celebrated their 40th anniversary on April 5th, 2026. Mark adored his children, Shannon (Sean) Pederson and Jade (Travis) Miller. He was active and present in all of their sports and activities and even in coaching softball. He was always there when his girls needed him.
He loved being a dad, but when it came to being a papa to his grandkids, he held no prouder title. He loved attending their activities and spending time with them and he never hesitated to show up for them. His five grandkids were the light of his life: Oliver and Otto Pederson and Trace, Frankie, and Skya Miller.
Mark is also survived by his siblings, Linda Greenhagen, DeLane (Nancy) Fickbohm, and Dawn (Gary) Scott, numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Lori Winkelman, Kevin Johnson and Warren Johnson.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ida.
We will celebrate Mark's life with a visitation on Friday, November 7th from 4:30-6:30 pm at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Please come and share your favorite stories-we know there are plenty. His funeral will be held Saturday, November 8th at 11:00am also at Nathanael Lutheran Church. The service can be seen watched at: Nathanael Facebook . A private family burial will be held on a future date.
Please feel free to wear your Jackrabbits gear.
"A loving father, tender and kind-what a beautiful memory you left behind."
