Mark Alan Carnes, age 58, passed away of natural causes September 15, 2016 at his new home in Vermillion, SD.
Mark was born February 28, 1958 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD to Loyal and Irene (Cue) Carnes. He was the youngest of six children. Mark grew up in Beresford, SD and graduated from Beresford High School in 1976. He was active in track, choir and band, where he played the trumpet. He was especially recognized for his wonderful performance as Professor Harold Hill in the school production of "The Music Man". Mark went on to graduate from Lake Area Technical School in Watertown, SD.
On April 26, 1986, he was united in marriage to Sheree Moeller of Hardwick, MN. They had two children, a daughter Jenna Lea, and a son Ryan Alan Duane. His children were his pride and joy. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD, and Lennox, SD, where he started is life-long career of auto sales. Over the years he had the pleasure of working at Ben Hur Ford, Billion Chrysler-Dodge, Jerry's Auto Sales of both Lennox and Beresford, Sioux Falls Ford, and Law Automotive. At the time of his death, Mark was working at Quality Motors in Vermillion. Cars were a large joy of Mark's life; not only selling them, but also restoring and showing classic cars.
Mark enjoyed spending time with his kids, visiting family in Omaha, watching movies, eating at restaurants, attending classic rock concerts and going to classic car shows.
He is survived by his daughter Jenna and her husband Casey Gerszewski of West Fargo, ND; son Ryan Carnes of Madison, SD; a sister Marlys and her husband Larry Lubash of Omaha, NE; a brother Doug Carnes and his wife Carol of Omaha, NE; his former wife Sheree George of Brandon, SD; Sister-in-law Betty Carnes of Beresford, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
He has now joined his heavenly family; his parents, Loyal and Irene; brothers Curtiss and Fred; sister Pauline and her husband Don Ronan; nieces Cindy (Carnes) Mayberry and Becky Carnes, as well as many aunts and uncles.
A Memorial visitation will be held at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD on Monday, September 19 th , 2016 from 5pm-7pm. It is requested by the family that any classic car owners attending the service to please drive their cars that evening in Mark's honor.
