Marion Sternquist was born July 25, 1918 in Princeton, MN to parents Leonard and Ellen (Carlson) Sternquist. She died May 8, 2008 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 13 days. Marion moved to Alcester with her family at a young age. She graduated from Alcester High School in 1936, graduated from Dakota State College in Madison and then received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. Marion taught at rural schools in Lincoln and Union counties and at Alcester Public School. She moved to Minnesota and taught in Worthington and Albert Lea, retiring in 1982. She moved back to Alcester and took care of her father and has resided here until the present time. Marion was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester where she served in many different areas. She served on the South Dakota Synod Council, and was a member of the RLD Club and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Marion loved to travel and had visited many locations around the world. She also enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses. She started the quilting group at Nathanael and was its chairwoman for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Holmstrom and Maynard Roduner. Her survivors include two sisters: Wilma Holmstrom of Vienna, SD and Arla Roduner of Alcester; brother Orland (Harriet) Sternquist of Beresford; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester. Visitation will be Monday from 2PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM and a prayer service beginning at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
