Marie L. Gorman, 87, of Beresford, SD, passed away July 18, 2019 at Centerville Care & Rehab in Centerville, SD.  Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, July 23 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, followed by a prayer service at 7PM.  Mass of Christian Burial services will be held at 10AM Wednesday, July 24 at St. Teresa Catholic Church.  Entombment services will be held at 1:30PM Friday, July 26th at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO.

Marie Bickett was born September 28, 1931 to John and Elvira (Olson) Bickett on the family farm near Beresford, SD.  She was the 8th of 12 children.  She attended school in Beresford then received her Bachelor's Degree from Mount Marty College in Yankton in 1960, her MA from Creighton University in Omaha in 1965, her MS from Emporia State University in 1970 and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1980.

Marie taught in various primary and secondary schools until 1966 and as an English Instructor until 1970.  While earning her Ph.D. in counseling/psychology, she worked as a primary school counselor in Pleasant Hill, MO.  She then began her private practice in Kansas City, MO and retired in 1997 in Oak Grove, MO.  Marie married Robert Gorman in Leavenworth, KS in 1990.  Following her husband's death in 2008, she returned to Beresford to be near her family. She was an excellent writer. Marie was recently writing a children's book where the characters were based on her step-grandchildren and the setting was of Robert's childhood home in MO.

Marie is survived by her seven step-children, Robert L. Gorman Jr (Joyce), Milwaukee WI, David Gorman (Donna), Wichita KS, Becky Nielsen (Adam), Overland Park KS, Jim Gorman (Cathy), Malvern PA, John Gorman (Suzie), Shawnee KS, Jeff Gorman, Kansas City MO, and Lisa Spoonhour (Stephen), Overland Park KS; 14 step-grandchildren, Jason Gorman, Kevin Gorman, Dylan Gorman, Basia Gorman, Nicole Enamorado (Juan), Sarah Dorrian (Tyler), Kyle Coffelt, Kennedy Coffelt, Briella Gorman, Katie Gorman, Ashley Gorman, Jack Gorman, Shea Spoonhour and Delaney Spoonhour; and her five siblings, Lillian Biehl, Plymouth, MN, Adeline McIlvenna, Sioux Falls, SD, Irene Latendresse, Camden, TN, Robert Bickett, Centerville, SD, and Gerald Bickett, Lebanon, OR.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; a step-child, Sharon Knowles; her four brothers, Milford Bickett, Raymond Bickett, John Bickett and Bernard Bickett; two of her sisters, Bernice Jorgensen and Dorothy Kirby and a half step-daughter.
