Obituary

Margaret Peggy Wood was born December 2, 1930 in Centerville, SD to parents George and Venice (Lowrie) McAthie. She died February 10, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Centerville, SD at the age of 79.

Peggy graduated from Centerville High School in 1948 and began working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On July 1, 1951 she married Ronald Woody Wood in Centerville. While Woody served in the United States Army they lived in Ft. Smith, AR and Killeen and Gatesville, TX. When Woody was stationed in Germany, Peggy moved back to Centerville and Woody joined her upon his honorable discharge in 1952. Peggy worked for First Midwest Bank from 1951 to 1979 when the couple moved to Yankton. In 1992 they moved back to Centerville. Woody died February 26, 1995. Peggy then moved to South Sioux City, NE to be near her son and grandchildren. She later moved to Centerville and has resided here until the present time.

Peggy was a 50 year member of the O.E.S Ivy Chapter #25 of Centerville and the Centerville United Church of Christ. She was very proud of her family and grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.

Survivors include three sons: Dick Wood and special friend Mary, Collinsville, IL, Scott Wood and wife Robin, Elgin, IL and Todd Wood and wife Lisa, Billings, MT; seven grandchildren: Katie Wood, Waterloo, IA, Jeff and Tyler Wood, South Sioux City, NE, Joshua Wood and krystal Wood, Billings, MT, and Joshua and Lewis McCracken, Elgin, IL; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, William and James and 2 sisters, Mary Ann Anderson and Jeanne Meaddows.

Memorials may be directed to the Centerville Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Saturday, February 13 at the Centerville United Church of Christ with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
