Obituary

Margaret Lorraine Hartman was born July 14, 1928 in rural Sioux County, IA to parents Adolph and Alpha (Johnson) Hitzmann. She died November 21, 2014 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 7 days. Margaret attended country school in rural Akron and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1946. She married Norman Hartman on March 12, 1949. The couple lived in the Akron/Chatsworth area until 1953 when they moved to rural Alcester. They lived on the farm until 1996 when they built a house and moved into town. Norman passed away in February of 2013 and Margaret continued to live in Alcester until the present time. Margaret was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of the Nathanael Lutheran Church where she was a member of WELCA. Margaret and Norman enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Texas. They liked listening and dancing to polka music. She enjoyed camping, quilting, attending extension club and continuing the friendships she had made over the years at those meetings. Margaret was a wonderful hostess and always provided food and coffee for all who came to her home. She dearly loved visits from her friends and especially her family. No one left without getting a hug and knowing she sincerely cared about them. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman and a brother and sister in infancy. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Bowers and husband Will, Brandon, SD and Mary Sigman and husband Steve of Alcester, SD; five grandchildren, Brant (Becky) Bowers, Neil Bowers, Stacy (Hans) Pitsch, Amber (Justin) Meyer and Nathan Sigman; six great- grandchildren, Dominic, Veronica, Braidan, Ashlynn, Hanna and Easton; a brother Melvin (Eleanor) Hitzman, Akron, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Nathanael Lutheran Church, Alcester with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alcester. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.
