Marcene Gabel was born April 9, 1938 in Hudson, South Dakota to Joe and Lucillia (Tschudy) Pliska. She died July 24, 2017 in Alcester, SD at the age of 79 years, three months and 15 days.

Marcene was raised in the Beresford area and graduated from Beresford High School. On July 7, 1956 she married Wendell Gabel. Together they raised their four daughters on a farm northwest of Alcester. She worked at Custom Coils and as a certified nurse aid at Morningside Manor in Alcester for many years.

She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Wendell; four daughters, Brenda Gabel of Alcester, Sherea Risk of Greeley, CO, Sheryl (Brad) Myers of Wentworth, SD and Cindy (Mark) Snoozy of Billings, MT; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Garren (Ruth) Pliska of Sioux Falls and Jerry (Linda) Pliska of Rochester, MN; and one sister, Jule (Howard) Schollerman of Alcester. Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Marcene will be 2PM Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Beresford Zion United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Zion Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be 3-5PM Saturday at the church with a prayer service at 4PM.
