Mabel Lucille Steen Ewoldt was born May 23, 1918 in Holstein, IA to parents Fred and Dara (Libkie) Steen. She died March 14, 2006 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 21 days. Mabel married Harry Ewoldt on May 4, 1935 in Sioux City, IA. To this union four sons were born: Ronald, Frederick, Richard and Don. Mabel became a member of Roseni Lutheran Church in 1960 where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Beresford VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, son Ronald, sister Ferne Coates, two brothers, Harold and Leslie Steen and a sister in infancy. Mabel is survived by three sons: Fred Ewoldt and wife Barb of Sioux Falls, Richard Ewoldt and wife Judy of Sioux Falls and Don Ewoldt and wife Jan of Hartford, SD; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters-in-law: Dorothy and Mary Steen; and three special friends: Darlene Wastell, Darlene Blumer and Shirley Schnose.
