Obituary

Mary Lucille "Lucy" (Gemmill) Farley was born to John & Theresa (Slowey) Gemmill on August 10, 1928 near Irene, SD. After graduating from Irene High School she moved to Yankton, SD and worked at Gurneys.

Lucy married Earl Farley November 30, 1954 at Mayfield Church near Irene. They lived in Beresford, SD. They had nine children and she stayed at home and took care of them as well as other peoples' children. In 1972, she went to work at Raven where she worked until the age of 73 when they closed the doors. Lucy then went on to work at a day care and also babysat for the Antonson family.

She became a resident of Bethesda of Beresford in December 2012. Lucy passed away at Sanford Hospital, surrounded by family, on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the age of 87 years. Her husband, Earl, preceded her in death on June 24, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son, Pat Farley; grandson, Joey Delaney, son-in-law, Todd Merrick, her parents, John & Theresa Gemmill, brothers, Ralph, Harold and Bud Gemmill, along with in-laws, many other relatives and friends.

Lucy was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church of Beresford, Altar society, Catholic Daughters, American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She loved cooking and baked the best bread ever. She also loved Sundays, so it was fitting she went to Heaven on a Sunday. Finding humor in the darkest of times was one of her many treasured characteristics. Lucy loved to laugh until she cried and often had a Kleenex in hand, just in case she had to wipe away the tears. This sense of humor was often on display, even at times when you wouldn't expect it. However, it was always on display with her friends that she shared many cups of coffee with. Lucy was a very giving woman. She was never short on giving of her time, talent, and treasures. She will be missed not only by her family, but by all who had the pleasure of meeting her.

Funeral services will be at 2PM on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Teresa's Catholic Church followed by burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-5PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford continuing at the church from 6-8PM with a rosary at 6:45PM and prayer service at 7PM.
