Obituary

LuAnn Hustrulid Dutro, born May 12, 1948 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022 in Sioux Falls after a long battle with breast cancer. LuAnn graduated from Beresford High School in 1966 and later studied at South Dakota State University.

LuAnn is survived by her son, Kevin Kleinsasser (Jennifer), her daughter Lori Stancer (Jim), her grandsons Brendan Stancer and Dylan (Berkeley) Stancer, her sisters Lynelle Hustrulid and Sheryl (Hustrulid) Ek, her brothers Ron Hustrulid (Netta) and Bob Hustrulid (Sharon) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There are no words to describe how much she will be missed. Anybody that knew her was better for it. She made friends everywhere she went.

LuAnn was a pre-school teacher/director at the YMCA in Norfolk, NE and worked in the medical field for several years until she retired. She had the gift of being a care giver to many family and friends, including her late husband, Ken.

LuAnn lived a very full and fun life. She was always ready for an adventure, having lived in South Dakota, Virginia, Nebraska, California, Kansas, and Texas. LuAnn enjoyed having many interests, including playing racquetball, running, working out and staying active.  She liked playing cards, going out to eat and shopping. She loved being at the beach and collecting seashells. She was a huge fan of Facebook and connecting with the world. She loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs play on Sundays, decked out head to toe in her Chiefs gear! But most of all she was happiest when she was spending time with her family.

LuAnn was an avid traveler and encouraged her children and grandchildren to explore the world. She spent her retired years traveling with her aunt Phyllis and good friend Nancy, along with many other friends and family.

LuAnn was the most loving and giving person who had three of everything and would happily gift you anything of hers.

She was incredibly proud of her two grandsons, Brendan and Dylan. They meant the world to her and would do anything for them.

Please remember to live every day to the fullest and enjoy what makes you happy. Life is way too short.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 19 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, SD.
