Lorraine Helen Payson was born Dec. 9, 1923 to Christ and Minnie (Peterson) Payson on the family farm in Clay County, South Dakota.  She entered into death on July 24, 2022, at the age of 98 years, 7 months and 15 days.

Lorraine attended North Riverside grade school and graduated from Centerville High School in 1941. She met Ray Lounsbery after he returned from WWII.  They were married March 11, 1949.  They lived and worked on the family farm southeast of Centerville in Clay County all of their married life.  They had two children, Diane and Dean.  Lorraine volunteered and served on different committees at Ash Creek School and Komstad Covenant Church through the years.  She worked at Raven Manufacturing in Beresford for a few years.  Lorraine lived in Centerville for couple of years after Ray died in 1989.

She attended Komstad Covenant Church, which her Grandfather Swan Peterson help establish, all of her life until she moved to Urbandale, Iowa in 1994, to be closer to Diane. In Urbandale, Lorraine lived on her own in a condo.  She made new friends and walked many miles on the bike trails some with Diane, and many on her own.  Lorraine moved to Senior Suites of Urbandale in March of 2018.

Through the years Lorraine sewed and taught Diane to sew clothes and home projects.  She spent many hours knitting and crocheting sweaters, bedspreads and table clothes, numerous afghans, baby blankets and table dollies.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents, Christ and Minnie Payson; and her brothers, Clifford and Delmar Payson. She is survived by her son, Dean and Mary Ellan Lounsbery of Branson, MO; grandson, Tony and Amy Lounsbery of Lake St. Louis, MO, and granddaughter, Jody and Jake Hayman of Minnetonka, MN; and step-grandsons, Brett and Katrina Sanders of Orlando FL, Josh Sanders of St Peters, MO. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Dennis Hubert of Urbandale, IA; grandson, Mike Hubert of Urbandale, IA and Kevin Hubert of Clive, IA. Lorraine has 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2PM Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022 at Komstad Covenant Church, 29987 University Road, Beresford, SD  57004. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family requests memorial donations to Komstad Covenant Church or a charity of your preference.
