Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Lorene Margaret Swanstrom was born August 26, 1925 in rural Beresford, SD to Joseph and Margaret Zweifel.  She entered eternal rest on December 15, 2020 at the age of 95.

Lorene married Freeman Swanstrom on September 28, 1951 at Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church.  They were blessed with a family of five.  Coming from a large family herself, she taught her children that family is very important.

Lorene loved a hot cup of coffee that she served along with her homemade sweets to all visitors.  She enjoyed gardening, music, all kinds of handwork and playing games with Freeman, her children and grandchildren.  She was a member of the Brooklyn Evangelical Free church where she taught Sunday School, played piano and served in many roles.

After retiring from farming, she and Freeman enjoyed traveling and made many new friends along the way.  She accompanied Freeman on many trips associated with farming.

Those who gratefully shared her life include her husband, Freeman; and her five children, Carol (Mark) Meyer, Long Beach, CA, Margaret (Scott) Wellenstein, Centerville, SD, Dale (Nancy) Swanstrom, Beresford, SD, Joan (Jae) Sim, Sioux Falls, SD, and Jane (Jeff) Buse, Sioux Falls, SD.  She had a special love for her 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren as well as dozens of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings.

Lorene was devoted to her family who will miss her dearly.  She passed her faith in God along to her children who celebrate the fact she was at peace with her creator.

Visitation will be held 5-7PM, Friday, Dec. 18th at Wass Funeral Home, Beresford.  Memorial services will begin at 1:00PM Saturday, Dec. 19th at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church and will be livestreamed at www.brooklynefc.org; masks are required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brooklyn EFC Cemetery Fund.
