Loreen McCall was born July 9, 1914 in Union County, SD to parents Richard and Mable (Porter) Anderson. She died December 9, 2009 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 95 years and 5 months.
Loreen attended rural schools in Union County and graduated from Alcester High School in 1931. She then attended South Dakota State College in Brookings. She married Raymond McCall on November 11, 1931. The couple farmed north of Alcester. She was a cook in the Alcester school system for 13 years and cooked at the Alcester golf course for a number of years. Loreen lived her entire life in Union County, South Dakota.
Loreen was a lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid, Sunday school, and various other church activities. She was a loving housewife and mother, and will be remembered by all who came in contact with her and were touched by her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, infant son Raymond Douglas, daughter Loreeta (Rita) Roach, her parents, a brother Lloyd Anderson and a sister Ferne Bresser.
Her survivors include her son Thomas McCall and wife Kay of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren: Patricia (William) Miles, Sioux Falls, David (Eva) McCall, Budapest, Hungary, Douglas McCall, Stockton, MD, and Sara McCall, Smithsburg, MD; three great- grandchildren: Michael and Robert Miles, Sioux Falls and Julia McCall, Budapest, Hungary; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends including Jeff Hall.
The family requests memorials to Peace Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland, 4300 Hamilton Blvd, Sioux City, IA 51104.
Funeral services will be 10:30AM, Saturday, December 19 at Peace Lutheran Church, Alcester, with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alcester. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
