Obituary

Lois J. Sundstrom died Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Alcester Care & Rehab, at the age of 90 years.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00PM, Monday, March 14 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 15 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD.

Lois Joan Sundstrom was born March 25, 1931 in rural Alcester, SD to parents, Andrew and Sigrid (Ekren) Eggen. She was baptized and confirmed at Roseni Lutheran Church. She attended Star and Nora Elementary Schools in Union County. Lois graduated from Alcester High School in 1949 and during her last 2 years worked at Larsen Drugstore. After graduating, Lois worked at Lincoln Union Electric. In 1950, Lois was married to Burdette Sundstrom at the Roseni Church. While Bert was in the Army, Lois traveled on the Queen Mary ship to Germany to join him and they returned to the US together at the end of his tour.

Upon their return, the couple settled on a farm near Hudson, SD for 10 years before moving to the Alcester area. They became members of Nathanael Lutheran Church where Lois sang in the choir, played in the Bell Choir, was a member of WELCA, and was involved in the Sunday School Program. As a soloist, Lois enjoyed singing at many special events throughout her life.

In the late 60's, Lois started working at Beck & Gubbrud Law Firm where she was a tax assistant for many years. She was active as a 4-H Leader and joined several bowling and golfing leagues. Lois was very social with her Red Hat ladies and was on the Morningside Manor Board for many years. Lois loved sewing, ceramics and other needlework projects.

Lois is survived by her 3 children; Debra (Michael) Reppe, Centennial, CO; Jan Sundstrom, Yankton and Scott Sundstrom of Alcester; 4 grandchildren: Ryan (Kelley) Reppe, Nicole (Kern) Higgins, Justin (Holli) Reppe, and Julia Sundstrom (Nick) Lyle; and great-grandchildren Kaelan, Ryland & Brecken Higgins, Maxwell & Charlize Reppe, Harrison & Emerson Reppe, and Nova Sundstom-Lyle & baby coming. Lois is survived by one brother, Arlo (Bev) Eggen of Tucson, AZ and 2 sisters, Joyce (Duane) Ludwig of Brentwood, CA and Sandra (Ronald) Johnson of Alcester, brother-in-law Chuck (Pat) Sundstrom of Alcester and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Lois in death was her husband Burdette, her parents, 2 sisters-in-law and their husbands, Ramona (Lavaine) Blumer and Ardell (Wayne)  Hagen.
