Obituary

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3PM Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD, followed by a gathering at the Beresford Liquor Store.

Lloyd Alvin Peterson, age 90, passed away peacefully with his granddaughters by his side, under the warm and loving care of Ava's House staff on Friday, September 25th, 2020. He was welcomed into heaven by his favorite card partners, Joyce, Marion, Loreen, Richard and Pete, with a hand already dealt.

Lloyd was born October 30, 1929, the youngest of six children, to August and Emma Peterson. He was nicknamed Baby Lloyd by his mom, much to his chagrin.

Lloyd spent his childhood on the family farm near Hub City where he also attended school. He joined the Army Infantry and was stationed overseas in Germany from 1951-1952.

He married Joyce Harrington on October 4th, 1958. They made their home in Beresford. Lloyd was a driver for Reed Sales and then Sioux Steam. He eventually became the manager of the Beresford Municipal Liquor Store where he worked for 22 years and enjoyed visiting with the patrons. Lloyd was friends with everyone! Upon "retirement" from the liquor store he returned to work at Fiesta Foods, where he worked until well into his 80's. Lloyd was also active with the volunteer Fire Department as well as Meals on Wheels.

The joy of Lloyd's life was his only daughter Cindy (Cin), son-in-law Rick and four grandchildren, Mike (Mo), Nikki (NyeKye), Abbie (Abbercadabber) and Allie (Ellie). Lloyd also found joy in watching Nascar, relaxing with his cat, Morris and especially playing cards. Summers were filled with weekly picnics and card playing in Lloyd and Joyce's garage. Everyone was always welcome at the Peterson's.

Lloyd was a patient, kind and loving man. He never missed a dance recital or a soccer game and also had a camera at the ready. He always had a nickname for those he loved which he'd shout loudly over the sound of his hands playing the drums on his belly as you walked in his front door.

Grateful for having shared his life is his daughter, Cindy, son-in-law Rick, grandson Mike (Amy), and granddaughters, Nicole (Ben), Abbie (John) and Allie. He also had six great-grandchildren, August, Lucy, Noah, Grace and Charlie. He was considered "the best uncle ever" by his nieces, Judy, Joni and Everett's girls.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, August and Emma, five siblings, and beloved wife Joyce.
