Lillie Ida Mathilda Hitz was born December 24, 1908 near Osmond, NE, to parents August and Augusta Hitz. She died May 31, 2010 at Wakonda Heritage Manor at the age of 101 years, 5 months and 7 days. She was baptized and later confirmed at the Osmond Lutheran Church on March 28, 1923. She completed the eighth grade and stayed home to help her parents. She met George Dibbert in 1927 and were married on February 14, 1929 at the Golgotha Lutheran Church in rural Wausa, NE. To this union two children were born. Roma Mae on February 12, 1930 and Ronald Edward on January 12, 1933. They farmed for six years and after their farm sale they worked for area farmers both in Nebraska and South Dakota until retiring in 1970. They moved to South Dakota and lived near their daughter for 24 years. The couple moved into Centerville and lived for 3 years and then moved to an apartment in Wakonda where she lived for 10 years. Lillie became a resident of the Wakonda Nursing Home in August of 2008. She was chosen Valentine Queen last year and enjoyed the activities associated with the honor during the year. She also liked to play Bingo. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, an honorary member of the Ladies Aid, and years ago was active in the church quilting group.
Among her hobbies were gardening, canning, flowers, baking, crafts, sewing, and fancy work. When Lillie lived in her apartment she had a squirrel that came to her window and she also enjoyed watching the birds at her feeder. A favorite pastime was playing cards and in her later years she looked forward to the Sunday evening game of Aggravation. On December 24, 2008 her grandchildren hosted a 100th Birthday party for her. All the grandchildren with the exception of one greeted her along with many relatives and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Roma Halvorson and husband Robert of Wakonda and their children Judy, Jerry, Duane, Keith, Arlen, Paul and Amy; a daughter-in-law Lorraine Dibbert and her two sons Warren and Alan; 18 great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George, in 2001, her brothers Edward, Herbert, Arnold and Herman, a sister Irene, her son Ronald in 2004, a great grandson and a granddaughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at First English Lutheran Church, Centerville with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
