Lewis "Lewie" Kribell, 83, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Alcester Care & Rehab. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, SD. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, October 23 at St. Teresa Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Lewis Joseph Kribell was born on the family farm on February 15, 1935 to Lew and Katherine (Neuroth) Kribell. He was the 9th of 10 children. He was raised in the Beresford community where he attended Rainy Vale rural school and Alcester High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1957 and received an honorable discharge after the death of his father in 1958. After his discharge, he began a life of operating the family farm.
On November 26, 1960, he married Gloria Bystrom at the church of his youth, St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Emmet, in rural Beresford. They made their home on the Kribell family homestead south of Beresford where he enjoyed a life of farming the land and feeding cattle.
After partially retiring from farming, he was employed as a bus driver for the Beresford School District for 17 years. He was nominated as a candidate for area Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year by the Vermillion Jaycees in 1968. He enjoyed trips to the Hawaiian Islands and Alaska with his wife and children.
Beyond blessed to have shared his life, are his wife of 57 years, Gloria Kribell, Alcester, SD; his children and their spouses, Jeff (Debbie) Kribell, Brandon, SD, Jim (Connie) Kribell, Beresford, SD, Jere (Andrea) Kribell, Lennox, SD, Dan (Paula) Kribell, Bellevue, NE, Tom Kribell, Alcester, SD and Rob (DeAnne) Kribell, Beresford, SD; his son-in-law, Craig Caruthers, Yankton, SD; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Harrington, Pantego, TX and Alvin Bystrom, Alcester.
Lewis was preceded in death by his daughter, Kari Lynne Caruthers; his parents, Lew and Katherine; his brothers, Larry (who passed away at 5 years of age), Daniel and James Kribell; his sisters, Mildred O'Connor, Lucille O'Connor, Monica Lyle, Dolores Valsvig, Mary Therese Jennings and Anne Harrington; and his grandson, August Thomas Kribell.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph's Cemetery of Emmet.
