Lester Everett Austin, son of Everett M. and Elsie (Johnson) Austin, was born April 4, 1930 on his parent's farm northwest of Centerville. He passed away on March 8, 2015 at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 4 days. On April 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Bertrand. Eight children were born to this union; Mike, Tom, Dean, Kent, Lisa, Brad, and Tim of Centerville and Shelly of Beresford. Lester was born, raised, and lived most of his life as a farmer. He was a Turner County Commissioner for 12 years, a Township Board member for 30 years, and a Centerville School Board member for 8 years. He was instrumental in starting the Turner County Food Pantry in Centerville, serving as the President for 26 years. He also served as President of the Centerville Senior Citizen Center for the past 15 years. He was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church. In January of 2001, Lester suffered a mild stroke and retired from farming and raising hogs and moved into Centerville. Lester is survived by his wife Rose Marie (of 63+ years), 8 children, Mike (Kay) Austin, Tom (LeAnne) Austin, Dean (Mavis) Austin, Shelly (Gerald) Landeen, Kent (Kathy) Austin, Lisa Nielsen, Brad (Barb) Austin, and Tim (Jackie) Austin; 25 Grandchildren, Tania, Jamie, Katie, Lee, Stephanie, Jill, Jessie, Heather, Ryan, Amy, Ann, Amber, John, Joe, Mandy, Becca, Nicole, Emily, Alec, Nicole, Ashley, Briana, Carrie, Brittany and Adam. 25 Great grandchildren, Ben, Elly, Colton, Chloe, Claire, Chance, Gage, Olivia, Sophia, Lily, Anna, Jack, Lucas, Dawson, Dalton, Kiera, Brea, Lydia, Jordyn, Aiden, Cooper, Christian, Landon, Lance, and Jaela; two sisters, Annadell Norling, Beresford and Audrey Poppenga and special friend Bill, Lennox; his brother Russell (Donna) Austin, Centerville; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Ronnie, and his sister Beverly. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2015 at Scandia Lutheran Church, Centerville, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be at the church of Thursday from 5PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM.
