Obituary

Leroy Sveeggen, 82, of Beresford, South Dakota, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 13th, 2023.

Leroy Marlin Sveeggen was born on October 27th, 1940 in Akron, Iowa to Sigvald and Hannah (Isakson) Sveeggen.  He grew up on the family farm in rural Alcester where he attended Nora Country School through 8th grade, attended 1 year at Augustana Academy in Canton and graduated High School from Alcester High School in 1959.  On November 19th, 1963, Leroy joined the Army and achieved Expert Marksman where he worked as a Chaplain's Assistant until he was honorably discharged in 1965.  After his military service he returned to the family homestead near Alcester to continue farming with his dad. Leroy married Nancy Jo Harvey on August 10th of 1968 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, South Dakota.  Together they farmed corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and raised livestock until he retired in the late 90's. They raised 7 children, 6 boys and 1 girl, as they all continued to maintain the family farm.

Leroy was a long time member of Big Springs Baptist Church in rural Alcester. His faith was always his first priority. He was an animal lover, especially when it came to his Scottish Highlander cattle and dogs.

He enjoyed visiting with friends and family, watching stock car races, and attending hay sales. Leroy was often found talking on his phone to any one that would answer.

Leroy is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Nancy, and seven children, sixteen grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
