LeRena Helen Johnson was born March 22, 1924, in Beresford, South Dakota, to Carl Theodore and Ellen (Anderson) Johnson.  She died Friday, November 10, 2017, at Bethesda Nursing Home at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 18 days.

LeRena was raised in the Beresford area, attending Milbrook country school and graduating from Centerville High School.  She married Arlan Ostrem on May 29, 1943, in rural Beresford.  They were married for 71 years until Arlan's death in 2014.  Together they raised their three children, Donald, Lynda and Terry.

LeRena was a homemaker and also worked at the Centerville Bakery and did seasonal housecleaning and painting at Bethesda Nursing Home.  She enjoyed singing with Arlan for many occasions, and was active in Sunday School, Ladies Aid, and White Cross.  LeRena and Arlan spent many winters in Texas, where they shared their music with nursing home residents and other groups.

Her survivors include her children, Donald (Elaine) Ostrem of Centerville, Lynda (Curtis) Olson of Sioux Falls, and Terry (Janis) Ostrem of Beresford; five grandchildren, Kari Ostrem of Centerville, Douglas (Michelle) Olson of Yankton, Krista Olson (Aman Manchanda) of Boston, MA, Nicole Ostrem (Patrick Golay) of Sioux Falls, and Ashley Ostrem of Sioux Falls; ten great-grandchildren, Catherine, Christine, Michael, Brent (Devin), Talia, Damien, Naia, Kai, Camden and Kemper; and two great-great grandchildren, Reegan and Ryenn.  She was preceded in death by her husband Arlan, her parents, grandson Corey Ostrem, brothers Donald and Lloyd Johnson, and sisters Eleanor Haugland, Vivian Vik, Elvera Knutson, Elaine Hall, and Lynette Osthus.

Funeral services will be 10AM Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in Beresford, SD.  Visitation will be 3-8PM Monday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6-8PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
