Memorial services for Leona Larson will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at the United Church of Christ in Beresford. Leona was born August 15, 1917 near Burbank, South Dakota to Carl and Petra (Knutson) Christenson. She died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 90 years and 23 days. Leona graduated from Centerville High School and attended college in Madison, SD. She married Hazen C. Larson May 18, 1940. They lived in Beresford where they raised their sons. Leona was a clerk at the Ben Franklin Store in Beresford for many years. She was an avid reader and Sunday school superintendent at the Congregational Church as well as a member of the Rebekkah Lodge. Survivors include her two sons, Larry and his wife, Shannon Larson of Yankton, SD and Jerry and his wife, Kris Larson of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren, Lynne Peterson, Michael Larson, Kelli Larson, Tami Larson Hulbert (deceased), Alexandria Lambrecht and Toni Larson; seven great-grandchildren, Domanic McNear, Shelby Larson, Madison Larson, Derek Larson, Alex Peterson, Amelia Peterson and John Pfeifer; one sister, Dorothy Moore of Rockford, IL. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, one sister, Hazel and two brothers, Ray and Don.
