Obituary

Lee R. Hight II, 62, of Alcester, South Dakota passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 after a heroic battle with cancer.  He slipped away peacefully in the arms of his wife.

Lee was born in Ft. Sheridan, Illinois to Leon and Bessie Hight.  He spent eight years of his childhood in Heidelberg, Germany where his father was stationed in the US Army.

He joined the Army in August of 1973 and served in Heidelberg, Germany where he grew up.  Lee was honorably discharged from the Army in August of 1976.

After leaving the Army, Lee worked in construction as a brick layer and mason for much of his adult life.  He earned a degree in Engineering and for a period of time worked for Lanier Business Products installing and servicing word processors and dictation equipment. After leaving Lanier, Lee went back into the construction business and worked for many years at Brown Wegher Construction of North Sioux City, South Dakota.

He loved to spend his time fishing, camping, sitting by the fire pit, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Lee was a Freemason. His family was his greatest joy.

Lee is survived by his wife, Sara; mother, Bessie Hight of Cherokee, IA; sisters, Deb (Mike) Samuelson of Cleghorn, IA and Beth (Bob) James of Larrabee, IA; four children, Joelle Hight (Roger McKernan) of Vermillion, SD, Michelle Hight of Sioux City, IA, Nicole Miller (special friend Cory) of Iowa Falls, IA and Danielle Costanzo of Cherokee, IA; three step-children, Todd (Karen) Campbell of San Antonio, TX, Elizabeth (Hal) Kravig of Franksville, WI and Leigh (Michael) Joyce of Omaha, NE;  life-long friends, Steve (Aimee) Rupp of Cherokee, IA and Paul (Jacki) Elsbury of Marion, MT; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nephew, Brian (Peggy) James of Centerville, SD who have been a constant in Lee's life throughout all of his illnesses, and many other nieces and nephews whom he loved. His father, Leon Hight, preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, SD.
