Lawrence Andrew Lind died unexpectedly of natural causes on July 6, 2010 at his family home near Alcester, South Dakota. He was born in Hawarden Iowa on May 7, 1944, son of the late Arthur and Hilda (Igelsrud) Lind.
Lawrence began his formal education at a rural one room school, Ring #65, in Union County S.D. He attended Hawarden High School. His career field had many facets; machinist, gunsmith, mechanic, welder, instructor, supervisor, and construction worker to name just a few. Lawrence lived and worked in the Sioux Falls area.
Before retiring to the family farm near Alcester, Lawrence took one or two "Walkabouts" traveling west stopping off in Montana, Nevada, Arizona and visiting many places including Las Vegas, Chicago, and a couple places in between. "Lawnie ' to childhood friends and family, was a youthful mischief maker with a quick wit. Friendships were important to Lawrence and several key people made his list. His best companions were his dogs. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of the New York Times Crossword puzzle.
Lawrence is survived by his three children: daughters Natalie Taylor and Stephanie Lind and son, Art Lind of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lawrence was the proud grandfather of Dustin Taylor, Jennifer Taylor, Michael Lind, Mathew Lind and Nathan Lind and great grandfather of Myah and Tucker Taylor. He leaves a sister, JoAnn O'Hare and nephew James (Dorothea) O'Hare and grandnephew Liam of Waukesha Wisconsin in addition to many relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, July 17 at Nathanael Lutheran Church, Alcester, SD.
